Manipulate a Broad Range of Virus-Host Fusion by Triterpenoids: Is the Time Up for Viral Entry Inhibitors from Nature?
Pentacyclic triterpenes are a large class of secondary plant metabolites with a variety of pharmacological activities, including antiviral, etc. Our findings provided the mechanistic insights into the triterpenoid-HR2 complex as a common switch for modulating syncytium formation, thus blocking virus-host fusion. These studies complemented our understanding of the evolutionary function of triterpenoidsin nature.
